I spent 8 years working in shelters and animal control. I had more than 20,000 people give me their animals. Most of them would have kept the animal if they could control its behavior. Back then, I had nothing for them. I accepted their animal and slid it into a system where the majority were euthanaized. I did that too - virtually every day I went to work. I never liked that, though I perfectly understood the necessity and did it with great concern over doing it properly. When I left that world I decided to address the main reason dogs are surrendered - unacceptable behavior.
The behaviors that directly contribute to surrendering an animal are predictable and finite. Yet, at the time, the lauded experts weren't talking my language and weren't focused on truly solving problems. Three decades later, they still aren't in touch with reality and have taken their expertise farther and farther away from practical solutions. I continue to fix that, too.
In the process I created clicker training for dogs. (Note: What I created was based on training more than 1,000 dogs by my methods. It was never 'all positive' - it can't be.) To do this, I invented real solutions to unacceptable behavior that were unknown - and still shunned by entrenched 'experts'. When confronted with roadblocks, I created ways to blast through them or simply charted a different path around them. Impediments dissolve when your fundamental knowledge of behavior is solid as a rock.
The reason this course is the premiere dog training and behavior course is because it offers a broader spectrum of topics, to greater depth and includes both the theoretical and practical pieces of the puzzle. More than any other program. There is no other expert who has an established presence in the world of behavioral science and practical working dog training. Neither of those perspectives offers a complete examination of the process we call behavior.
Both modern 'scientific' methods and traditional methods offer arbitrary and inadequate rules - but they don't give you the underlying framework that can free you from 'recipes'. In essence, I offer you a map that allows you to navigate to your desired goals. After this course, you will have a rock-solid understanding of how behavior works and how to make it work for you.
Few people realize that with that foundation you can teach a blind dog to come and stop a mentally defective dog from attacking and seriously injuring its own leg - using the same processes and principles. You will be able to do far more than rehabilitating dogs with problems. You will have a leg-up on competition and working applications. In essence, you will be on your way to true mastery.
